Konaki Sumo is a unique contest held at Sensoji Temple in Asakusa where sumo wrestlers try to make babies cry. Two wrestlers each hold a baby and face off; the first baby to cry is declared the winner. Based on the Japanese proverb that crying babies grow fastest, this centuries-old tradition is believed to bring health and good growth to the children.
