The Minamiza Kaomise is Kyoto's most prestigious annual kabuki event, a tradition dating back over 400 years. "Kaomise" means "face-showing," as it was originally the occasion for actors to present themselves to audiences. The theatre displays colorful maneki (actor name boards) on its facade during the run.
