Free Festivals in Japan

Great festivals you can enjoy for free

164 free festivals

Many of Japan's best festivals are completely free to attend. Shrine festivals, bon odori dances, and most fireworks displays welcome visitors without admission fees. Community-organized matsuri have traditionally been open to everyone, offering a rare opportunity for travelers to experience authentic local culture alongside residents. While food stalls and carnival games cost extra, the festival atmosphere, processions, and cultural performances are free to enjoy.
